Delta State Government said it had disbursed more than N341m as bursary allowance to about 17,075 students from the state in 2010.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the beneficiaries were in various institutions of higher learning across the country.
State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Asaba, the state capital.
He said that 17,075 out of 24,000 students cleared to benefit from the scheme, had been paid.
He said that 25,600 students applied for the assisted welfare scheme, adding that each benefiting student got N20,000.
Eghagha said that the present administration of Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan was committed to the welfare of the students.
